Tree Planting Day at Prana Energy: A "Save The Bees" Initiative

On Friday 12th October, Bunjil Energy & Prana Energy had the privilege to kick off an ongoing tree planting project to support the declining numbers of bees.

What would our world look like without bees? Bees are at the top of the list when it comes to important species for survival. They are our most critical pollinators, pollinating around 70% of our crop species which feed 90% of the world. Honey bees are responsible for $30 billion a year in crops.
In addition, we may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all the animals feeding on those plants and so on all the way up the food chain. Which means that a world without bees would not be able to sustain a global human population of 7 billion. Our supply of fruits and vegetables would be halved.
We are currently losinG bees at an alarming rate. Possible reasons include deforestation, the loss of flower meadows, the crab-like varroa mite, climate change and the use of pesticides.

Prana Energy provides sustainable renewable energy solutions to businesses. We care about the planet we live in and we thrive on the responsibility to support corporate Australia in reducing their environmental carbon footprint and reducing their energy expenditure.
In light of the above, we are proud to have partnered with Marko Petrovic for the Priroda project where our donations will contribute to the planting of 900 trees. A variety of tall, medium and shrub species that have long flowering times throughout the year to support both the honey bee and native bee species will be planted.
Among the various plant varieties will be Eucalyptus, Acacias, Melaleuca (Tea-tree), Callistemon (Bottle Brushes) and others.
On the day, we will be planting seedling tubes of various native trees and shrubs which will within 1-2 years already start to produce an abundance of flowers and nectar to support the European and native bee species and in the mid-long term, become a home for many native birds and marsupials.
